Recipe: Green Chocolate Almond Protein Shake

If you read my last post, you know that I'm 1 week into my 30 day green smoothie challenge, incorporating 1 green smoothie, loaded with veggies and fruits, into my day. A few weeks back though, I found myself craving my usual protein shake after a workout, and thought it'd be interesting to try blending in spinach for some extra greens! Now, I try and eat vegetable with every meal, but sometimes it's hard! I don't know about you, but sometimes I have trouble incorporating vegetables into my meals. I love adding a side salad to any of my meals, or a side of green vegetable like broccoli, green beans, or asparagus. If I don't get in enough greens though, I'm left feeling sluggish and bloated the next day, so I know I have to up my intake that day. There are several ways that you can do this: 

  •  Mix spinach in with your morning eggs
  • Have a salad loaded with veggies (spinach, mixed greens, iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc.) and topped with protein (chicken, turkey, tuna, eggs, beans)
  • Side of vegetables (cucumbers with hummus, broccoli with sea salt sprinkled on top, etc)



I know, you're probably shaking my head reading my list, saying to yourself, "I hate vegetables.." However, making a green shake or smoothie for your breakfast, snack, or post-workout refuel, can be a sure fire way to get your greens in without even tasting them! When I made my green protein shake, I was able to drink about 1 serving of vegetables, and I didn't even taste it! You can add spinach to any of your shakes, and I bet you, all it will do is add nutrition and change the color a bit! My shake was green, no doubt, and very vibrant... it's hard to not smile when you look at a shake that color! 

Have children, or even a significant other, that refuses to eat vegetables, try a green smoothie!
