On the second day of FITMAS my personal trainer gave to meeeeee...
a 2 minute wall sit,
and a 1 minute plank by the tree!
With anything else in life, we're not the BEST when we first start out - we don't know how to walk until we learn, and then practice, practice practice. Same goes with riding a bicycle, playing baseball, coloring in the lines, driving, starting a new job, and everything else in between! We make mistakes, probably more than we care to admit, and keep going, trying again and again until we don't fall down. There are still some days where you might lose your balance again, but you always get right back up.
What's not unusual is that this can also apply to your fitness and wellness journey!
There are going to be days, especially when you first start out where you eat unhealthy, too much, too little, half ass a workout, or skip one all together. What we shouldn't do though, is think the whole day is ruined, the whole week, the whole month! I hear a lot of people say, "Oh well, I'll just start Monday" (When it's Wednesday). NO NO NO! Listen to me now, just because you ate a doughnut for breakfast, doesn't mean you have to eat unhealthy meals the rest of the day. Instead of pushing back the rest of your life, start over right then and there, after you enjoy that doughnut, of course! Each new day, brings a new lesson learned. Maybe next time, you'll pack a lunch, or skip the doughnut and choose a healthier breakfast option, but just like we fall down a few times when we learn how to walk, we always pick ourselves back up. This applies to those workouts too... maybe you're too tired one day to wake up early to workout, then schedule a workout right after work... pack your gym bags and bring them with you, so that you don't have to go home and be tempted by the couch OR do small exercises throughout the day, like a wall sit, squats, lunges, a long walk during lunch. Just move! Don't skip your workout entirely. You don't have to go to the gym or a class to get a good workout in, exercise moves during work counts too, as does a plank before bed, or even a 5 minute workout routine at home! Fit in whatever you can fit in, but don't give up on the day completely!
We can't keep waiting for Monday, for a new month, for January 1st, to start fresh.
If we do that, we're not going to learn, and soon we'll forget how to walk all together, and lead an "easier" life, not challenging ourselves, and pushing ourselves past the limits. I get that this may not be easy to hear, but you need to hear it. If you missed out on Day 1 of our 12 Days of Fitmas, it's not too late! Jump in now and join us in the challenge! Don't just say "Nah, they already started, I can't do it now." Remember there may not be a tomorrow, a next month, a next year... so NOW IS YOUR TIME!
