A few months ago, my long-time high school friend asked me to host a bootcamp class at the Athleta that she worked at. I eagerly agreed, as it would be my first actual bootcamp class outside of CKO Kickboxing. I was excited, especially when she started making the flyers for it, and my other friend made Get Fit with Kristyn tank tops for me to sport while I led my boot campers. Athleta offers free fitness classes on the weekends, prior to opening up shop. My friend worked at one in Pennsylvania, and while I wasn't looking forward to the drive, I knew it'd probably be a one time deal, because I'm not looking to drive that far, and I currently work during the weekend, but I was excited anyways!
I decided to make my workout high intensity, full of body weight moves, and hit all muscle groups from your abs and core to your legs and arms. My best friend, Alisa, and Sal, decided to take the morning off to come with me! We woke up early that morning, and hit way too much traffic for a weekend day. They closed down one of the major highways, and I honestly didn't think I was going to make it. Luckily, we made it with time to spare, and we started to set up. I brought a great playlist, Sal brought speakers, and my Canon T5i to capture some great shots. However, when the ladies started to arrive, they were all super shy and didn't want to be on camera, so Sal had to respect that and resort to just snapping pictures of me.
The workout was difficult to say the least, I took the ladies from a quick warm up to get their blood pumping, to a long stretch, and then we got into the real workout. I started them off with a HIIT to really burn the most amount of calories in the shortest amount of time, then we did a strengthening move, and ended with abs. We repeated that type of circuit about 4 times, and then ended with a nice cool down, and stretch. The looks I got, definitely told me one thing, it was hard, but with the right push, they could do it. They were sweating by the end, but I had a feeling they all felt extremely accomplished and proud of themselves. Maybe it wasn't the type of workout they had in mind for a dreary, overcast Saturday morning, and maybe it wasn't quite what they're used to, but everyone walked out of there dripping and feeling good, I'm sure of it.
Afterwards, Sal, Alisa, and I, refueled with some healthy breakfast crepes, filled with eggs, cheese, and veggies! Then we headed back home before I knew it. It was over, and I was filled with even bigger ideas and dreams for where my future bootcamps would go, and how I'm going to reach out and help even more individuals GET FIT.
