Who's Ready for a Little Spring PUSH!?

When someone asks you, "what exercise do you want to get better at doing?" What exercise do you usually respond with? For me, it's an exercise move that I'm not good at, but one that I want to become better at, and one that I know, if I get a little bit stronger each and every day, that I WILL be better. What's that move for you? For me, it's a push-up. It might be crazy for you to believe, but I used to not be able to do push-ups on my toes. I had absolutely zero upper body strength, and my family would always make fun of me for being a little string bean. Sure, I played softball, soccer, and ran around like all kids do, but when was I really getting down into a high plank, or push up position and doing push-ups? I'll tell you... never. I started doing push-ups on my knees, and eventually I was able to bang out a couple of push-ups on my toes, before dropping to my knees to finish them, and now? Well, now I never drop to my knees. I may not do every rep, but I'll be damned if I drop to my knees for any of them. I've come this far and I'm not about to take a step back. I'm also strong enough now that I can do more complicated push-ups, like those that include jumps, 1-leg, or even declines.

When I'm teaching and training members at CKO Kickboxing, I tell them that it's okay to drop to their knees and that no one is judging them, and I mean that. If you are banging out push-ups on your knees, with good form, I will not say anything to you, but if you're laying there waiting for the next move, then you're in for it. I would rather see everyone modify a move if they cannot do it, than give up completely. What I also say is that before they drop to their knees, that I need them to try giving me AT LEAST one push-up on their toes. Why? Because the next day, they'll be able to do two push-ups on their toes before dropping to their knees, then three, then four, then five, and pretty soon, they won't drop to their knees anymore, and they'll be just as amazed as I am!

Even though I can do push-ups on my toes, and difficult ones at that, I still want to get BETTER and STRONGER. So I've created a SPRING Push-Up Challenge for myself, and ALL OF YOU! I want each and every one of you reading this to join in, starting today April 1st! Nope, this is not an April Fools Joke! We will start with our MAX OUT of push-ups in one minute, and by the 30th of April, you will be doing FIFTY, yes, FIFTY push-ups! I know you're thinking I'm crazy, but I promise you that if you push those negative thoughts out of your head, you can achieve anything you set your mind to, and you will have a group of individuals to support you. Head on over to Facebook and request to join my Spring Into Summer Challenge Group, where you'll find all the support, motivation, and encouragement you can get from individuals with similar goals! We will be holding each other accountable, each and every day!
