you GET to do this.
I attended a Child Life conference yesterday for my full-time job, and I felt re-energized, and full of new inspiration and motivation to really help each and every child I work with in the hospital. I'm sure everyone that attended the conference felt the same way, just as I'm sure all of you reading this can relate to what I'm saying. Since I'm a child life specialist, the conference was very interactive, during one session we were wearing clown noses, but that's besides the point. The last session of the day involved us walking around a room and picking out small cut-out pictures on tables, along with a white board. I realized, almost immediately, that we would be making vision boards. In all my goal-setting, and dreaming, I had never made my own vision board. Shocking, I know, but I thought I preferred writing all of my goals down. It wasn't until I gathered all of my pictures, that I realized that a visual of each actual thing is so much more than words.
Print out all of those pictures that you've pinned on Pinterest, and haven't done anything with
... Yup, I'm talking to YOU...
The pictures could be of anything - dreams you have and want to accomplish, places you want to visit, things that you want, a family, a job, friends, love, future aspirations, a fit body, new foods you want to try... literally ANYTHING. Cut them out and grab a board to place them on, then pick up that glue stick and put them alllllll together. While you're doing this though, I want you to remember one thing, if nothing else... YOU don't HAVE to do this, you GET to do this. How hard in the gut does that hit you? It hit me extra hard when I heard it for the first time yesterday, because honestly... how true is it, with anything in life? How often do you hear people complain at work that they don't want to be there, OR how often do you complain? How often do you hear people say working out is too hard, or not for them? How often do you brush it off your shoulder that you can move your muscles and workout? How many times have you seen someone on their phone or too preoccupied to BE present in whatever it is they're doing because they're bored, or impatient? Well guess what...
YOU don't HAVE to do any of it, you GET to do it.
We may not realize it at the time, but thinking about a certain situation - whether it's your job, your ability to workout, the long, exhausting trip to the supermarket, there is always going to be someone that wishes they had the chance to do what you're doing. How much of your life are you taking for granted? Someone is currently looking online for a job that you're lucky enough to have, someone can't afford the gym you workout at, or can't move their muscles because they're sick, paralyzed, or hospitalized, someone doesn't have access to a supermarket, or clean water for that matter. Honestly, YOU don't have to do anything at all, you can easily sit on your couch every night, eating bags of potato chips, burgers, and bowls of ice cream without a care in the world, pitying yourself for being stuck, but guess what? You don't have to be stuck in that mindset. You GET to do anything you set your mind to - you GET to go to the gym early every morning, you don't HAVE to & you GET to head to work each day & you GET to make money to support your family, & you GET to put healthy food on the table for everyone to eat, & you GET to LIVE. We have a choice each and every day we wake up... we can stay in that "stuck" mindset, and think we can't do anything about our situation, or we can change it up and start looking at it in a more positive light. Because there's always light, even on the darkest days.
