You asked, and you got it! Another recipe on the blog today! I don't know about you, but I find myself eating less in the summer. When I'm hot, I don't really feel like eating unless it's a huge, fresh salad with tons of veggies, or an ice cold smoothie. Oh and plenty of ice cream too... In the winter, that's when I turn to comforting foods, you know those dishes that make you warm inside, and feeling stuffed - like chicken Parmesan. YUM. So after working out outside, I decided to make the ultimate chocolate smoothie. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, chocolate cake, or even chocolate ice cream, but I love chocolate almond milk, hot chocolate, and chocolate protein. I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either. I looked around at the ingredients that I had, and that's when it hit me. I can make one of my favorite drinks, HEALTHIER! Have you ever had a frozen hot chocolate? Well, if you haven't you're missing out... and if you have, then skip right to the recipe below.
One of my favorite cafes in town, The Fine Grind, sells an amazing drink called the Frozen Hot Chocolate, otherwise known as the FroHo. It's basically a hot chocolate with tons of ice blended up, topped with whipped cream. They don't list the calories, and I'm sure everyone is grateful for that, but I can imagine that it's a little higher than most of us would like, and doesn't really provide us with any nutrition. Well, it's time that changed! Below you'll find my healthy frozen hot chocolate, or as I like to call it the FroProHo, with tons of protein, and wholesome ingredients.
If you don't have cocoa nibs to top it off with, no worries, but just know that they contain a naturally rich supply of antioxidants, and is an excellent source of dietary fiber. They're one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium, and contain other essential minerals. The ones I use are certified organic, kosher, non-gmo, gluten-free, and raw. In other words, they're not only sprinkled on tip to look pretty.
